This is a white gold and hand-engraved diamond and sapphire wedding set I made for some very dear friends of mine. They had lost the large stone out of their original set and she had been using an inexpensive ring they bought at a department store. They commissioned me to make them “something nice” and gave me carte blanche to create the piece.
It is all hand-engraved with a light, flowing and unique style with a one-carat antique cushion-cut stone. It has a beautiful fire in the sunlight. The stones on the side are blue sapphires and diamonds. These diamonds were in her original wedding set he had first gotten her.
The engraving is a nice, deep high-relief and the stones are in a prong set. The casting I did for the outside bands are from an anniversary band pattern I had and then I welded it all together so those bands make up the borders for the engraving design.
I meant for the engraving to look like it was floating.
Each line needs to flow and interlock all the way around. I also did the background in a stippled finish, meaning I go in with a very sharp tool and hammer and make tiny little dents in the metal, side by side, so the texture of the engraving stands out.
I am really excited about this piece. Hopefully she is going to love it as much as I loved making it!
