Some of the most fun pieces I create are the most memorable. Those happen when somebody brings in their jewelry — stuff they can’t wear anymore or stuff that was inherited — and asks me to design something completely new.
For this lady, the blue diamonds we used were from a ring they had bought at some jewelry store but the ring was missing a diamond and diamonds kept falling out of the ring.
Another diamond came from her parents’ or grandparents’ jewelry. One of the diamonds came from her old wedding set.
I took all that gold, melted it down, and set their diamonds, in a custom design, in something that was little bit different, something they didn’t have to worry about, something that wasn’t what you would find just “off the rack.”
That’s the most fun part about making something like this. You are taking somebody’s heirlooms and you make something new they can appreciate. Because your style may not necessarily be your grandma’s style. But you can keep the memory of that special loved one with you and this is just a beautiful way to do that.
